SHILLONG, March 30: Senior United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Bindo M. Lanong has asked the state government to file criminal complaint and institute an independent inquiry into the power theft at Byrnihat Industrial Area.
He said the “sensational” discovery of power theft in the Byrnihat industrial area by MeECL’s Chairman cum Managing Director Arunkumar Kembhavi has exposed the rot within the corporation that has led to cuts, resulting in the suffering of people and economic loss to the state.
While complimenting the CMD for unearthing the scam, Lanong asked the government to immediately file criminal complaints against all those allegedly involved in crippling the power sector, appoint an inquiry committee to probe cases of power theft by the industrial units in collusion with MeECL officials and also file claims for recovery of arrears.
