SHILLONG, April 1: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said that he will join Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and other senior party leaders next week for the ongoing campaigns ahead of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) polls.
He said that as per the inputs received by the party, the NPP is in a very good position and is hopeful to pass the magic number of at least 15-20 seats.
“From one election to another, the principle of the NPP is to work hard to cross the bridge and win right from MDC, MLA to MP elections,” he added.
Informing that the chief minister is already campaigning in each and every constituency of Garo Hills, the deputy chief minister said, “Next week, I am also joining our chief minister along with senior leaders of the party in the campaigning process”.
Asked about the fight they expect from the Congress, he said the target of the NPP is to make sure that they get a comfortable majority in this upcoming election, whether the Congress is in power or not.
“The principle of the NPP is that once we contest elections, we want to win and secure absolute majority,” the deputy chief minister said.
Asked if the NPP will bring solution to the financial irregularities in the GHADC if voted to power, Tynsong said, “As far as the financial irregularities that have been alleged, we have constituted a dedicated audit team for that”.
“Hopefully, after the elections are over and once we form the executive committee, we will get the report and accordingly we will attend those recommendations found by the audit team, which is right now stationed at GHADC office,” he added.
