SHILLONG, April 12: A squabble between personnel of 58 Gorkha Training Centre (GTC) and locals from Mawshbuit broke out on Monday after the former reportedly shut the gates, leaving people stranded.
According to the police, the scuffle was a result of GTC personnel closing the gates.
Some have also alleged that that the residents of Mawshbuit were stranded outside the army gate following reports of an argument between a civilian and an army jawan earlier during the day. It is said that the gates were later shut in the evening.
Police and magistrates were also deployed to avert any untoward incident.
After the intervention of officials from the district administration and the local MDC of Sohryngkham, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the GTC personnel decided to open the gates later.
When contacted, Wing Commander, Ratnakar Singh, said that some civilians, who were in an inebriated state, were overspeeding their vehicles. He added the issue was later resolved.
