SHILLONG, April 13: Congress leader, Vincent Pala, on Tuesday said that the results of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections will not determine the party’s fate.
“I don’t think that the ADC elections will determine future elections because the these elections have always been different,” said Pala.
Reasoning that the candidates in ADC polls are different and so are the expectations from people when compared to the Assembly polls, the Congress leader said, “I do not know who will win but I do not think that will determine party’s fate. I have seen in Jaintia Hills, Garo Hills and Khasi Hills; the subject, the candidates, the elections campaigns, they are all different.”
Taking a jibe at the ruling dispensation, Pala said, “Normally, Congress is open to suggestions from people. The difference between us and the present government is that they are only selective to certain sections of people, only those who support them whereas the Congress, even after the elections, always serves the citizenry”. “Congress is always approachable. We almost think whatever we do, we do for our people and not party man or business community,” he added.
With regard to the assembly elections in Assam, Pala said there are chances for the Congress to make a comeback. Corroborating this, Pala said, “The main is that the BJP in Assam could not fulfil the commitments and promises that they made”.
He also said that since the Adivasi community in Assam feels betrayed, it is fed up with the saffron party.
