2 schools in Guwahati sealed after students, teachers test COVID positive

GUWAHATI, April 19: The Kamrup Metropolitan district on Monday sealed two schools in the city in view of detection of COVID positive cases among students and teachers.

The district administration through two separate orders directed the authorities of NPS International School at Betkuchi and Assam Jatiya Bidyalay at Noonmati to close the respective institutions for seven days (with effect from Monday) after some students of NPS International School and teachers of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay tested positive for COVID-19.

The circle officer of Dispur revenue circle has been directed to seal the respective areas immediately.

The order has been issued under the regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020” and would be effective from April 19, 2021 till April 25, 2021.

“Any violation of the order will attract action under the provisions of ‘The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020’ and ‘Disaster Management Act, 2005,’ ‘The Epidemic Disease Act, 1897’ and other relevant laws of the nation,” the order stated.

Besides, any movement of unauthorised individuals and vehicles within the notified areas has also been prohibited with immediate effect.

Further, the school authorities of the two institutions have been asked to arrange COVID-19 tests for other students and teachers, as and when carried out by the team deputed by the joint director of health services, Kamrup Metropolitan district.

For the purpose, the principals of the institutions would have to arrange separate places outside the school campuses, the order added.
