Now, houses in WKH & SWKH razed by cyclones

MAWKYRWAT/NONGSTOIN, April 18: After Tura and its nearby areas on Saturday, strong winds accompanied by heavy rains wreaked havoc in villages from West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills damaging a handful of homes.
In West Khasi Hills, a cyclone accompanied by high-velocity winds destroyed two houses and a school at Nongdiwah village.
Two more houses at Mawkynbat village were damaged.
In the incident, which happened on Sunday between 6 am and 6:45 am, two sisters — identified as Shaolin Maru Nongsiej and Bistina Nongsiej of Nongdiwah — were injured and brought to Civil Hospital Nongstoin for treatment.
Moreover, the Diwah St Dominic Upper Primary School was hit by the wind and destroyed.
Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat along with the village headman, on Sunday, visited the cyclone-affected areas.
Byrsat assured the affected families of necessary assistance for the restoration of their houses.
In South West Khasi Hills, two houses were completely destroyed after the storm and cyclonic wind accompanied with heavy rain lashed the area on Sunday morning.
According to official sources, the ravaged houses belonged to Joplinda Nongkhar of Rangblang Pombriew village and Santifulmerry Dkhar of Mawhiangrnga village.
Sources also said that relief will be provided to the affected families on Monday.
Moreover, other houses in Rangblang area were reportedly affected by the cyclone, but all of them suffered only minor damages.
The cyclone had also hit Ranikor area in the last few days, but no major damages have been reported.
