TURA, April 19: With the NPP-led alliance on its way to form the next Executive Committee in the GHADC, the Congress has stated that it is ready to play the role of a constructive opposition in the Council.
On a day when all 29 elected MDCs were sworn in by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, the Congress also had a separate meeting with its 12 elected MDCs at Tura Congress Bhawan in the afternoon.
Chairing the meeting with the newly elected members, Congress leader Zenith M Sangma told presspersons that the party is prepared to take on the NPP alliance as a formidable opposition and would question each and every decision that would impact the people of Garo Hills.
“Everyone has witnessed what happened in this election. Even though the NPP used money power and every state machinery, yet, the people of Garo Hills rejected them by voting us in with the largest number of seats. It is a lesson for those who use money power,” said Zenith Sangma.
He claimed that the Congress had been prepared to lead the new EC in the Council with support from Independents and the GNC but the NPP lured away the MDCs with promises of cash and kind.
