NONGSTOIN, April 21: In a startling incident, a minor girl who worked as a waitress at a tea stall in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, was allegedly raped by the owner of the stall on April 14.
Based on the FIR filed by the 17-year-old girl’s family, the girl was at the shop of the accused, identified as Shaiborlang Nongsiej, when around 7.30 to 8 pm she was raped before she could make way for her home.
On the other hand, one Judonlang Kharbani was allegedly watching the crime being committed from the window.
It has been alleged that after being ‘raped’ by the stall owner, the girl was trying to escape when Judonlang Kharbani caught her and took her to the ground floor of Shaiborlang Nongsiej’s shop and raped her.
Shaiborlang Nongsiej has been arrested by Nongstoin Police, whereas the other accused was at large at the time of the filing of this report.
A case under POCSO Act has been registered and the investigation into the matter is under way.
It is worth mentioning here that Andreas Charles Gare was also arrested in 2002 in a case of forgery. Gare reportedly forged the signature of the then Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills in an order issued to conduct the fete and gambling.
