TURA, April 24: In a spine-chilling incident in a village in North Garo Hills, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly hacked to death on Friday by her stepfather for resisting rape. Following this, the stepfather killed himself on Saturday.
The incident reportedly occurred in a village named Raja Apal under Bajengdoba police station where the accused, Leliam R Marak (45), tried to force himself on his stepdaughter, who was alone at home.
Having made similar attempts earlier, he tried the same again on Friday when the girl’s mother had left home to attend a funeral.
The girl resisting the rape attempt is what infuriated the stepfather, who then, in a fit of desperation, allegedly hacked her to death with a sharp dagger. The girl, who was excessively bleeding from her face and head, was left to die by the stepfather, who immediately fled the scene.
With police hot on his trail and no place to hide, Marak took the extreme step and hanged himself in a garden belonging to a friend on Saturday morning.
