FIR filed in ASHA worker’s assault case

NONGPOH, April 27: Following an incident in which an ASHA worker was allegedly assaulted by two persons in Umjarasi village, Ri Bhoi, an FIR has been registered at the Nongpoh Police Station against those involved on complaint received from the district administration and Health department.
The ASHA worker was discharging her duty on the afternoon of April 24 when she was allegedly assaulted.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, informed that an FIR has been filed against the persons involved in the assault case and that the investigation is on.
Moreover, Kurbah even expressed her concerns over such an incident. She urged people, especially the village leaders of different localities of the district, to extend their cooperation to the health workers as they are the first line of defence, especially at a time when a pandemic is raging across the nation.
