SHILLONG, May 6: C&RD Minister Hamlet Dohling has directed the district administration of East Khasi Hills to halt the ongoing fencing work undertake by defence authorities along the PWD road at Anjalee Petrol Pump area.
“I have spoken to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, on this matter and requested her not to allow the Military Engineering Service (MES) to erect fencing very close to the PWD roads”, Dohling, who is also the MLA of Mylliem, said on Thursday.
On the other hand, the HYC Shillong City on Thursday also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on the matter.
In the memorandum, the organisation stated that the defence authorities are taking advantage of the lockdown being imposed throughout the district by erecting a fence at the said area. It also pointed out that if not stopped, they may also erect a gate to enter Iew Mawlong in the coming years.
The group exuded confidence in the DC, who assured them to conduct an inquiry into the matter before submitting it to the state government.
