TURA/NONGPOH/JOWAI, May 9: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ramakrishna Chitturi on Sunday extended the containment order issued in view of COVID-19 in the district till May 17.
As per the order, all educational institutions, religious places and places of worship in the district will continue to remain closed while all kinds of religious congregations have also been prohibited. The order for closure of weekly markets in the entire district continues to be in place while commercial vehicles including auto-rickshaw and tempos will ply with 50% seating capacity.
The interstate movement of people continues to be restricted while night curfew also continues to be in place restricting the movement of individuals from 10 pm to 5 am.
Micro-containment zones
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi has declared the compounds of Tonit Kurbah of Iew Umroi, Geodyhard Kharsamai of Mawbri, Linus Jalong of Nongrim, and Roddin Ahmed, Yodin Ahmed, Amir Ahmed, Chida Ahmed, Shan Ali, Linu Dkhar and Rashiv Dkhar of Lumsohphoh, Nongpoh, as micro-containment areas with effect from May 8 till May 18.
This was necessitated after COVID-19 cases were detected in the aforementioned villages.
Prohibitory order in West Jaintia Hills
In West Jaintia Hills, the District Magistrate has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC in the entire district from 5 am of May 10 until further orders in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Any gathering and congregation including social, political, entertainment academic, cultural and religious functions are prohibited.
Vehicles transporting wholesale vegetables are not allowed to enter the markets in Jowai town but have been permitted to unload the goods at lalong Lay-by Market.
All educational institutions in Jowai town will remain closed.
Respective Dorbar Shnong and school managing committees in rural areas, in consultation with the health officials, can close down schools if the need arises with due intimation to the District School Office, West Jaintia Hills, and the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
All transit vehicles are prohibited to park in any inhabited villages along the National Highway NH-06 under the jurisdiction of West Jaintia Hills.
Entry of tourists from outside the state and containment areas has been barred and all tourist spots will also remain closed.
Every individual moving in public, workplaces, shops and during transport should wear a face mask. Violation will attract a fine up to Rs 1000. Spitting in public places is also prohibited.
The district magistrate also ordered the public to adhere to all health protocols related to COVID-19 such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, etc.
