Call for support from medical students, professionals

NONGPOH, May 14: With the COVID-19 situation in Meghalaya getting grimmer, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, has appealed to all medical and nursing students, besides other professionals on the lines of medicines, to extend their support by volunteering to assist healthcare workers in Community Corona Care Centre (CCCC), which will soon be set up in the district based on different clusters.
The DC, in a statement, said that additional manpower is the need of the hour during the ongoing pandemic.
Containment measures extended
In another order, the DC extended the containment measures in the district till 5 pm of May 24.
According to the order, shops selling essentials will be allowed to open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 4pm, whereas Market Committee and the Dorbar Shnong have been asked to issue odd and even number to all shops under their jurisdiction and avoid overcrowding. Further, hardware, electrical, plumbing & sanitary ware shops, computer service centre, mobile and automobile repair shops will open on Tuesday and Thursday between 9 am and 4 pm.
Restaurants, dairy stalls, tea and food stalls are allowed to operate for take away and home delivery only.
Movement is permitted only for health services, agriculture, veterinary, transport of essential items, goods vehicles, e-commerce services, supply of medicines and pharmaceuticals, home delivery service and press besides movement of students, teachers and staff in lieu of the ongoing examinations. The order will not apply to persons travelling on essential government duty, it added.
All educational institutions, religious places of worship will remain closed except for wedding ceremony with due permission from the DC, all private offices and non-essential central government establishments will be closed except those providing essential services.
Public transport vehicles have been allowed to ferry one-fourth of the existing capacity of passengers and are bound to ply on the basis of odd-even rules. Other vehicles are allowed to ply with valid passes issued by the DC’s office.
