SHILLONG, May 14: Opposition Chief Whip PT Sawkmie has asked NEIGRIHMS, one of the institutes at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19, to share the progress of plasma treatment.
He urged NEIGRIHMS Director, Dr P Bhattacharya, to make public the extent of success of the plasma therapy and how many patients were provided this treatment in the institute.
Several BSF personnel last year had come forward to donate their plasma at NEIGRIHMS.
Moreover, the Opposition chief whip also hailed the cooperation and coordination of city private hospitals in dealing with the pandemic.
He lauded the management for arranging beds and vehicles for patients in other hospitals when their beds were full of COVID patients.
‘Ensure no harassment of staff disposing bodies’
UDP Chief Advisor Bindo Lanong has asked the state government to ensure that the workers engaged in disposing the bodies of COVID-19 victims across all parts of the state are not harassed.
Lanong also informed that there was an instance in East Khasi Hills recently when a team heading for disposal of bodies of COVID-19 patients was disturbed by some elements in a village en route to Dawki. “Their mortuary van’s tyre got punctured and some people came to chase them away. Later, police had to intervene,” Lanong said, while adding that these employees are deprived of some basic facilities.
Lanong urged the district administration to warn elements that disturb the health workers and ensure that the public cooperates with them.
