TURA, May 14: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has informed that the ones in the 18-44 age group, who are scheduled for COVID-19 vaccination, will be exempted from the purview of the weekend lockdown. However, they will have to produce their booking slip or the message that has been received by them as a proof.
“In view of the prevailing situation concerning the surge of COVID-19 cases in the district, total lockdown has been enforced on 15th and 16th May. To facilitate the movement of citizens who have booked for vaccination in the health centres via CoWIN application they are exempted from the purview of the lockdown subject to producing the booking slip or message received on their mobile phones and valid photo ID card,” stated the directive from the deputy commissioner .
Containment order lifted
Meanwhile, the authorities have lifted the containment zone tag from two localities in Tura, viz. Beldarpara (Tura bazar) and Darenbibra (Jail Road).
Aadhaar enrolment drive halted in SWGH
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ch. Ramakrishna, has suspended the Aadhaar enrolment drive in villages due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the district.
A meeting of all the members of the District Task Force, religious and community leaders, NGOs, district administration officials was also held in Ampati.
Apprising the members on the COVID-19 situation in the district, the DC said drastic measures would have to be implemented to ensure that the COVID-19 spread is checked.
He said that at this juncture, social mobilisation and behavioural change management was very important at the village level.
He also called for intensive surveillance of villages and appealed to all communities, religious heads and social organisations to render their helping hand in creating awareness among the people on COVID. The DC also reviewed the preparedness of the district health team for category C and D cases and registration for vaccination of those between 18-44 years of age. He also asked the health teams to coordinate with their counterparts in West Garo Hills in case there is shortage of oxygen in Ampati Civil Hospital.
Ramakrishna, after taking note of those employees in the district health facilities and other offices who are commuting from Assam, also directed the heads of such offices to make temporary arrangements for their stay in their respective places of work.
