SHILLONG, May 22: South West Garo Hills District Magistrate Ramakrishna Chitturi has directed village-level Price Vigilance Committees to monitor overcharging of essential commodities by retailers.
In his directive, the DC said that the consumers will have to be sold essential commodities in normal market rates and printed MRPs. “The village-level Price Vigilance Committees are to monitor and report any instances of overcharging by the vendors and retailers to the Office of undersigned via the Control Room no. 7628802948,” the directive said, warning action against the violators.
In a separate order, the DC has also a slew of restrictions on the operation of village shops within the district.
The DC has permitted all shops in village/localities to function from 8 am till 12 pm. However, shops in areas declared as containment zones have been barred from opening.
“Roadside shops and markets on the stretch from Damalgre to Garobadha, Garobadha to Garodoba and Betasing, Ampati to Mahendraganj areas are not permitted to operate. Similarly, roadside ships and markets on the stretch from Garobadha to Mirjumla areas are not permitted to operate,” the directive said.
The DC has also disallowed weekly markets in the district from operating.
Night curfew extended
Meanwhile, in a separate order, the DC has extended the night curfew in the district till 5 am of June 1.
In a statement, the DC has banned interdistrict travel and has reiterated that vehicles plying without passes will be liable for strict penalty.
For medical emergency and interdistrict transportation of essential goods, people have been advised to apply for an e-pass from the government website.
