SHILLONG, May 30: As Meghalaya begins to see the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, leaders of different faiths along with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Sunday, came together for an online prayer meet to remember those that have suffered during the pandemic and prayed for God’s comfort to people who have lost their near and dear ones.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed optimism while pointing out that with the number of single-day recoveries overtaking new cases in the last few days, Meghalaya would be able to contain the spread of coronavirus.
“We pray to God to give them strength and we remember those fighting COVID as many are hospitalised. The prayer meet also remembers the healthcare workers and frontline workers who are working tirelessly to save lives.” “In these tough times, we look up to god to guide, protect and guide us,” the chief minister said.
Religious leaders from Catholic and Presbyterian denominations, besides other communities such as Muslim and Sikh community and Ramakrishna Mission, Sein Raij et al, also joined the prayer meet.
Health Minister AL Hek, who also joined the meeting, thanked everybody for attending the programme.
Several ministers and MLAs of the state including Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, besides MLAs HM Shangpliang and Mayralborn Syiem, KHADC CEM Titos Chyne and others also joined the prayer meeting.
The special prayer was organised by the Meghalaya government and the virtual conference was live-streamed on the government’s official media portal.
