HSPDP calls for CM’s probe into unknown virus

SHILLONG, June 3: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has sought Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s intervention into reports of an unknown virus that has been infecting plants in select villages of West Khasi Hills bordering Assam.
In a letter to the chief minister, HSPDP president, KP Pangniang, said the virus has damaged lakhs of areca palm plants in several areas of Tynghor, Domjarain and others. Informing that this had taken a hit on people’s livelihood, Pangiang sought immediate intervention of the chief minister.
