MAWKYRWAT, June 3: With Mawkyrwat Community Health Centre (CHC) continuing to face shortage of drivers for ambulance service, the KSU has expressed its readiness to send its members as volunteers for COVID-19 duty.
According to the president of KSU, South West Khasi Hills, the decision was taken after the unavailability of drivers at the CHC came to light.
He informed that the Union, after enquiring, found that the dearth of drivers in the area was because some of them had tested positive for COVID-19 and were under home isolation while others were on duty at Ranikor Civil Sub-Division.
“During these hard times, the Union is ready to help and provide the best services to the people by sending its members as volunteers to help in driving the 108 ambulances for COVID-19 duty if there is driver required. Therefore, we urge upon the people of the district as well as the government to inform the Union if there are such incidents where drivers are not available,” the KSU leader said.
The Union had earlier donated PPE kits to four villages in the district — Mawten, Mawlangwir, Nonglang and Jashiar.
