SHILLONG, June 5: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Saturday said that he was in no hurry to act on the letter from opposition MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh seeking removal of rape accused North Tura MLA, Thomas Sangma from the membership of various House Committees.
Following allegations of rape and filing of a complaint by the victim, Congress MLA had shot off a letter to the Speaker urging him to remove Sangma from public undertakings and public accounts committees.
“I feel that I should not rush into taking any decision keeping in mind the nature of the case. There are also media reports that the complainant is contemplating to withdraw the FIR,” the Speaker pointed out. Lyngdoh also added that he has not received any complaint except for the letter from Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The case has been registered at Sadar Police Station and investigation has begun, police said on Saturday without revealing any other imformation. While the victim’s statement has been recorded, her medical examination is pending as she is unwell.
