SHILLONG, June 7: Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department has asked all deputy commissioners and block development officers to launch a special drive for issuing rations cards and providing foodgrains to the vulnerable sections of the society.
The order has been issued after the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution asked all states to utilise the available coverage under their overall NFSA limits by launching a special drive to reach out to the most vulnerable and economically weakest sections of the population in urban and rural areas.
Free rice
The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) of East Khasi Hills has informed that free rice under PMGKAY for NFSA households (AAY and PHH), at the scale of 5 kg per head for the month of June, has been released through the respective fair price shops.
The DC has directed all fair price shops owners to distribute the quota as soon as the stock arrives and display the list of beneficiaries and its timing of operation at their shops.
