NONGSTOIN, June 14: The body of a 28-year-old resident, identified as Toni Kharjahrin, of Siejlieh village in West Khasi Hills was found hanging from a tree on Monday, days after he had reportedly gone missing.
Police said that some boys from the village spotted the body, which was in a highly decomposed state, hanging from a tree at Didakon in Siejlieh. Following this, the village headman was informed, who later filed a police complaint and an FIR was subsequently registered.
On arrival of the police, one Dron Peinlang and other relatives of the deceased also appeared at the scene, who identified the body.
During inquiry, the relatives informed the police that Toni had gone missing since June 9 evening and did not return home. The family had looked high and low for him but in vain.
The relatives, however, told the police that they have no suspicion of foul play, adding that it is a case of suicide, adding that he was a habitual drinker. After necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
