Ex-state footballer dies of COVID-19

SHILLONG, June 14: Former Meghalaya footballer and athlete, Frankie Pariat passed away on Monday due to Covid-related complications. He was 56.
Pariat was member of the famed football team of the then St. Anthony’s High School which won the prestigious Subroto Cup in 1978.
Pariat began his football career with Blue Max and joined Lajong FC (now Shillong Lajong FC) after his former club went defunct.
Pariat had also represented Meghalaya in the Senior National Athletic Championship in 1991 held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Earlier, he had also participated in the Nehru Inter College Athletics Meet in 1984.
He was an employee of AG (Accounts) office and a resident of Mawlynrei. His funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday.
