SHILLONG, June 16: The Border Security Force (BSF) in collaboration with different NGOs and social organisations distributed ration and medicines to some border villages at Umkiang Border Outpost on Tuesday.
In many border villages, which share its boundary with Bangladesh, people continue to face challenges in view of the pandemic with limited resources and restricted activities.
The residents of Hingaria and Huroi village, situated in East Jaintia Hills, only hope that the government would turn their attention to the isolated villages.
In villages like these, people rely more on the BSF than the government for necessary assistance, and BSF delivers. With the help of NGOs and social organisations, the BSF provides ration and medicines to the people of these areas from time to time.
Headman of Lejri village, A Pahsyntiew, said that their village has received rice for the month of May and June so far. He however added that life for the poor in these villages along the Indo-Bangla border is very difficult.
The headman also said that there is a need to upgrade the ration card census as only 25 per cent of the residents have ration card and it is very difficult for them to update it.
