SHILLONG, June 25: In what can be called a feat for North East in the field of medical science, a Guwahati-based hospital has been able to successfully complete a congenital heart surgery on an infant.
According to a statement which was issued here, a two-month-old was initially admitted to Dibrugarh Medical College Hospital with symptoms of cough, fever, chills and shortness of breath.
“After initial treatment and three days of ventilation, it is clear that the child had TAPVC-Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return,” the statement said.
However, when the infant was admitted to Hayat Super Speciality Hospital in Guwahati in a critical condition, a surgery was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Suroj Kumar Pradhan, Senior Doctor and Cardiologist of Hospital.
“For some time now, it has been impossible to complete the congenital heart surgery at Guwahati. However, the treatment and surgery of a complex disease has brought good news for the entire North East and the Assam at the Hayat Super Speciality Hospital in Guwahati,” the statement said.
“Today, the child named Ans Paswan is allowed to return home from the hospital in a completely healthy condition,” it added.
According to the hospital authorities, patients had to travel outside Assam for such complex and critical surgeries in the past.
“However, such surgeries are possible for Hayat Super Speciality Hospital’s experienced doctors, nurses and advanced technicians as well as world-class technology. This is a message of hope for the state and the Northeast,” it said.
