Bailey bridge reopens for traffic

NONGPOH, June 27: The Bailey bridge, which has seen a fair share of wear and tear over the short period of its existence, is ready for another haul as the District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi, in an order, has permitted plying of vehicles over the bridge but with riders.
“Plying of vehicles over the Bailey bridge at Umroi, Dwar Ksuid (Shillong Bypass), will start with immediate effect but with movement of vehicles suspended every night from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM till July 15,” the district magistrate said in the order.
“Moreover, plying of overloaded vehicles above 40 MT over the said bridge is not allowed,” it added.
The bridge, recently, had suffered a technical damage reportedly due to plying of heavy vehicles after which necessary repair works were carried out.
