Trucker gets bail after his vehicle rams another killing six

SHILLONG, June 28: A trucker involved in a road accident which led to the death of six persons in Tuber Sohshrieh in East Jaintia Hills on Saturday, has been granted bail on Monday.
When contacted, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police, said that the driver was given bail by the court as all offences are bailable even as he added that the trucker was arrested on Sunday.
“As per headman, there were 23 people who were returning after planting rice in their friend’s paddy field and were traveling in the truck. However, it crashed into an Assam-registered truck,” the SP said.
All of the deceased were from Mynso village in West Jaintia Hills. Out of the eight who were injured, the SP informed, three are critical while five are admitted in Jowai Civil Hospital.
“Nine people have no injuries,” the SP added.
It may be mentioned that the deceased were identified as father-son Jeri Dkhar (45) and Sainbor Phai (15), brothers Lad Phai (22) and Thio Phai (17), besides minors Sylbester Suiam (13) and Hamedahun Phai (15). The bodies of the victims were returned to their families following autopsy at Khliehriat Community Health Centre.
