Governor pats MLCU graduates
SHILLONG, June 30: Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, on Wednesday, congratulated and commended the degree and diploma awardees of the Martin Luther Christian University during its 13th Convocation held here virtually. During the ceremony, as many as 723 degrees and diplomas were conferred including 12 PhD, 18 MPhil, 359 Master’s, 13 PG Diplomas, and 255 Bachelor’s degrees. Diplomas and certificates were awarded to 66 scholars. In his address, Malik, who is also the Visitor of the University, noted that online and remote learning has been a new learning experience for students and teachers and much support has evidently been provided through teacher-student communication and mentorship, through which they have persisted and worked hard in completing their respective courses. Also lauding the MLCU and its provision of relevant academic courses with emphasis on strengthening of individuals and communities at the grassroots level, the Governor expressed hope that the University will stand as a beacon for surrounding communities, even as he congratulated the institute for acquiring land for its permanent campus for which planning and development is under way.

Awareness prog on COVID-19
SHILLONG, June 30: The Office of the BDO, Mawryngkneng Block, in collaboration with Smit PHC, on Wednesday organised an intensive awareness programme for the village heads and members of social organisations of Nongkrem Dorbar Pyllun. The programme dwelt at length on the COVID-appropriate behaviour as well as on the vaccination hesitancy. A doubt-clearing session was also held during which East Khasi Hills District Immunisation Officer, Dr S Khonglah, allayed the apprehensions of the locals over vaccination. The BDO, R Wahlang, acknowledged the efforts of the Dorbar in containing the spread of COVID-19 and accentuated the need for the Dorbar to work in tandem with the government to encourage vaccination.

Doctors nominated for awards
SHILLONG, June 30: The Meghalaya State Chapter of Indian Medical Association has nominated seven doctors for IMA Doctors’ Day Award in a bid to acknowledge their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The doctors who have been nominated for the award are Dr (Late) John Sailo Ryntathiang of Bethany Hospital, Dr Christina Lyngdoh of Nazareth Hospital, Dr KG Lynrah and Dr Valerie Lyngdoh of NEIGRIHMS, Dr S Nongbri and Dr Andreas Dkhar of Meghalaya COVID care, and Dr Ivonne M Sangma from NHM.
Webinar to mark Yoga Day
SHILLONG, June 30: The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, on Tuesday organised an international webinar to mark the International Day of Yoga. According to a statement, the topics discussed during the webinar were application of yogic techniques as psychotherapeutic tool, hypothetical yoga protocol to prevent the impact of third wave of COVID in children, yogic understanding of health and diseases and role of yoga in post-COVID-19 condition. The webinar was attended by Director, NEIAH, Shillong, Dr PK Goswami, Dr Shyam, Medical Director of Dr Shyam’s Ayurveda Centre, Dr Ishwar V Basavaraddi, Director, Moracji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, Dr K Satyalakshmi, Director, National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune, et al.
