TURA, June 30: One of the seniormost police officers from the Garo Hills region, Debangshu D Sangma, was given a warm farewell on his last day of office before retirement by the officers and men of Meghalaya Police here on Wednesday afternoon.
Debangshu Sangma was Deputy Inspector General (Administration) of Meghalaya Police at the time of his retirement.
DGP R Chandranathan and other senior officials attended the farewell programme through video conference, in view of the COVID pandemic, that was organised at conference hall, and wished Sangma a happy retirement.
On the same day, the Director of State Crime Records Bureau, DN Jyrwa, was also given a warm send-off by the DGP at police headquarters, Shillong.
Debangshu D Sangma held various posts during his long career in the force. He was the commandant of the 1st and 2nd MLP Battalions in the state and also became the Superintendent of Police of South Garo Hills (Baghmara) and South West Khasi Hills (Mawkyrwat).
He was on ground zero at the height of militancy in the Garo Hills during the late 1990s and the millennium and served in various capacities.
Sangma also served two stints with the United Nations Peace keeping force in Europe’s Bosnia and Kosovo, after the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the subsequent Bosnian war with Serbia.
