TURA, July 1: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Food Processing Industries, Rameshwar Teli, on Thursday highlighted the viability of setting up food processing industries in Garo Hills for which interested persons can avail and apply for schemes from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GoI.
Teli was on his maiden visit to Garo Hills and was part of a programme organised by the GHADC at Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Tura.
Speaking during the programme, he spoke about schemes under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and informed that different options are being provided to farmers and entrepreneurs with special emphasis for the people from the North East.
The programme was also attended by GHADC CEM Benedic R Marak, GHADC Chairman Rakesh Sangma, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, other officials of the GHADC, entrepreneurs from the district, et al.
Dwelling on the various horticultural products cultivated abundantly in the region such as pineapple, cashew nut, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, etc, he said that food processing industries could be easily set up in the region.
Stating that Meghalaya has immense potential for organic farming, Teli said there is huge potential for food industries in the region and informed that the Ministry is not only focusing on organic farming and products but also providing career options in a sustainable manner.
Teli also informed that he had sanctioned Mega Food Park for Ri Bhoi recently under PMKSY scheme.
Highlighting the procedures and guidelines for applying for various schemes, he assured his full support and cooperation to ensure that these schemes reach to the people of the region.
