TURA, July 1: As South West Garo Hills fights a daunting battle against COVID-19, Health Minister AL Hek took stock of the preparedness of the district in what he termed would mean extending moral support to the administration and provide all necessary help at the same time.
Hek along with a team of Health officials from Shillong including Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War interacted with the district administration in a meeting at the Ampati Circuit House on Thursday. He also visited Ampati Civil Hospital and reviewed its health infrastructure later after the meet.
The minister was satisfied with the overall preparedness of the district machinery against the possible third wave of the pandemic.
Hek also noted the issues and challenges brought to light by the District Health & Medical Officer of South West Garo Hills, Dr Lily Sengme Ch Marak, which include the requirement of a paediatrician in the district hospital.
During the discussions, the Health minister expressed his concern over the delay in construction of the proposed Maternity & Child Hospital at Mahendraganj, and called for expedition of the land acquisition process as the works have remained pending for a long time.
While highlighting the district preparedness and vaccination status including the issue of hesitancy, Deputy Commissioner Ch. Ramakrishna exuded confidence in the district stating that it is now better equipped to deal with a possible third wave provided vaccination can be carried out as per plans. Also, the health minister told the district authorities to ensure supply of dry ration to all patients undergoing home isolation.
