NONGSTOIN, July 5: As the push for resolving the long-pending border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam has of late seen a newfound vigour, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Nongstoin Area Unit has extended support to the give-and-take policy, which recently came in the limelight even as it urged the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) to find a solution to the imbroglio.
In a statement, general secretary of the Nongstoin HSPDP, Michael Thongni, suggested that the government should constitute a professional team to consult all the locals and stakeholders in the area and settle documentations, which may be needed to defend a claim, before discussing the give-and-take policy.
“…being the member of this government, we strongly request for expedition of the matter that concern people’s freedom and peaceful living and we have strong hope that this government won’t fail the beliefs of its people who have vested power to fulfill the responsibility,” Thongni stated.
About Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s expected visit to Meghalaya in the coming days, the party said that the government should take this opportunity to remind and convince him to approve the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state “as a gift on the day we celebrate the 50th statehood day”.
