MP’s help sought into stalled work of Tura Medical College
TURA, July 9: The Tura Garo Senior Citizens’ Forum (TGSCF) has petitioned Tura MP Agatha Sangma, for her intervention into several issues including the completion of the proposed Tura Medical College, the construction work of which has been pending since 2013. With regard to the Medical College, the Forum said the eviction order issued by the High Court to encroachers residing on the land belonging to the Tura Civil Hospital (Rongka Chiring) has not been followed till date. According to the Forum, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, during his meeting with seven local organisations including the Forum at Tura Circuit House, had assured that the issue would be resolved within six months. However, it said that the eviction process as per the HC order was yet to be completed. Stating that the eviction process was necessary at all cost for construction of 21 units for different departments of the Medical College as per the norms of the Medical Council of India, the Forum urged the MP to address the issue at the earliest. The Forum also sought a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh from the MP to set up an old-age home. It said the land for the set-up of the old-age home has already been proposed at the Eco Park of the Forest Department at Goanang in Tura. SHILLONG, July 9: The sixth semester students of Media Technologies, Mass Media department of St. Anthony’s College will conduct a “communication campaign” in a bid to tackle the issue of COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy in Meghalaya. According to a statement on Friday, the campaign will be organised under the slogan ‘Pdiang ia ka tika, beh ia u Corona’ that translates to ‘Take the vaccine, chase away Corona’. “The communication campaign will be a 6-day programme which will commence from July 12 to July 17, primarily on social media sites such as Facebook, You Tube and WhatsApp,” the statement said.
City hospital gets One Stop Centre
Shillong, July 9: Taking cognisance of the increasing crimes against women and children, the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development, through Nirbhaya Fund, has set up a One Stop Centre in Ganesh Das Maternal & Child Health Hospital. The Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre, Ganesh Das Maternal & Child Health Hospital, Shillong, said that the scheme will enable the public to discern the issues of violence and other forms of gender-based discriminations that women are subjected to. “According to the Centre Administrator, the scheme will help in building a cross, multi-sectoral, gender-sensitive approach to violence against women in Meghalaya,” it said.
