SHILLONG, July 19: BJP leaders from Ri Bhoi have expressed their willingness to back Health Minister AL Hek as the state party president.
This was informed in a joint statement by BJP leaders including former district president, S Thabah, former district general secretary, Silentstar Rani, et al.
“BJP leaders from Ri Bhoi are willing to back AL Hek as the state party president for the change. This will definitely boost the party performance with a credible face leading from upfront as it is of prime importance for a party which has the largest primary member strength in the world. A retrospective analysis needs to be made as to why under Mawrie, the party has  not grown to the expected heights,” the statement said.
The leaders also accused state BJP president Ernest Mawrie of threatening party members of expulsion instead of ironing out issues.
“Instead of resolving issues, Mawrie threatens expulsion of members and barring them from visiting the party office till disciplinary findings are complete. Mawrie needs to answer how many people are actually visiting the office during his tenure? Such high-handedness will cost the party dearly,” they maintained.
Asking Mawrie to step down from the post and let Hek lead the party, they said, “He (Mawrie) can work under senior leader as he still lacks the experience to lead a national party.”
