SHILLONG, July 22: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) is pinning hope on meeting Union Home Minister, Amit Shah when he visits Shillong on Saturday.
CoMSO chairman, Robertjune Kharjahrin said if the Home Minister does not give time to the organisation, it knows how it should go about.
“We have sought an appointment with him. We have done all that is needed to meet him. But in case he does not honour our wish at the end of the day, we, as a pressure group, know what we should do,” Kharjahrin said on Thursday.
He said over the past three to four days, the CoMSO met the leaders of various political parties. He said as responsible leaders of the state, they should speak the voices of people.
“We hope they will carry forward the message that we want to put across. We believe he (Shah) will meet us and other NGOs,” Kharjahrin said.
Stating that the CoMSO is aware that protocol confirmation of meeting Z security personnel comes in the last hour, he said, “If he meets us, we will raise the genuine demands of people.”
The demands include the implementation of Inner Line Permit, resolving interstate border dispute, inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and Amendment to the Sixth Schedule.
In this regard, the leaders of CoMSO met BJP leader and Health Minister AL Hek.
“We requested that since he (Hek) is one of the senior members of the BJP, he must impress upon the Home Minister of the demands. He assured us that he will raise the issues,” Kharjahrin said.
Hek said, “Some NGOs requested me to get an appointment with the Home Minister. I will try to talk to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to give some time as they want to raise their points and demands in front of the Home Minister.”
He said he is doing his best to fix the meeting.
Shah’s last visit to Shillong had left political leaders and pro-ILP groups disappointed as no discussion was held on any issues other than the submission of a memorandum to him and a photo session.
