SHILLONG, July 22: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah is likely to land at Umroi Airport at 11 am on Saturday.
Official sources on Thursday said that he (Shah) will proceed to North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) from the airport to inaugurate the multi-purpose conference centre and exhibition facility. The Union Home Minister will have his lunch at NESAC.
Shah will inaugurate the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong at around 3 pm and thereafter move to Umsawli in New Shillong Township where he will inaugurate the cryogenic oxygen plant and paediatric ward at the COVID Step Down Hospital.
Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting with the chief ministers, chief secretaries and DGPs of the Northeastern states at the State Convention Centre at 5 pm.
According to official sources, Shah is also likely to meet the pressure groups at the same venue at around 6.30 pm. He will then proceed to Raj Bhavan for dinner and night halt.
On Sunday, Shah will take part in the tree plantation programme organised by Assam Rifles and will move to Sohra where will pay floral tribute to the statute of Swami Vivekananda at Ramakrishna Mission. He will then inaugurate the Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme at Khliehshnong and also inaugurate an afforestation project at Wahshari.
On his return to Shillong, Shah will engage in a brief interaction with the DG and jawans at Assam Rifles campus in Laitkor before heading to Guwahati on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, preparations are on in full swing to welcome Shah on his second visit to the city this year.
However, certain restrictions have been imposed and some orders have been revised in view of his visit.
In a sudden move, the East Khasi Hills District Administration ordered closure of all shops in Shillong Urban Agglomeration on Saturday.
However, shops in Zone – III (Pasteur BH), Zone – IV (Lumdiengjri) and Zone – VII (Mawlai) have been allowed to open on Friday instead of Saturday.
Apart from that, a drill conducted by the Shillong Police on Thursday led to commotion and traffic jams in the city.
It was also informed that an ambulance carrying a patient was forced to wait inside the Shillong Civil Hospital premises during the drill while a couple more were stuck in the traffic jam for a considerable amount of time.
In order to ensure a smooth ride for the Home Minister, all the rumbling strips have been removed from the route through which Shah will travel.
Police have declared several areas as no entry zones. A statement from police said that the road from BK Bajoria Junction to 4th Furlong, Matri Mandir to 4th Furlong, Pinewood Junction to YMCA Junction and Camel Back Road towards All India Radio and vice versa have been declared as no entry zones from 2 pm on Saturday and from 7 am till the departure of the VVIP on Sunday.
