TURA, July 24: After witnessing days of everyday COVID-19 fatalities, Garo Hills on Saturday breathed easy with no deaths being reported and the positivity rate stabilising to 5.44 percent, a drop of almost eight percent from the start of the week.
“We had to move in quickly and make those localities having a high number of cases into containment zones. It was the only way to stop the infection from further spreading. As of today, we are fortunate to have no deaths and the positivity rate has also dropped slightly,” informed West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh.
He also cleared the doubts about vaccine hesitancy saying that statistics have shown that wherever the vaccine drive has been a success there has been almost zero or a meagre number of cases reported.
“Most of the areas in Tura, where vaccination drive has received lukewarm response, have  reported more numbers of positive cases. That is why we are urging people to get vaccinated,” said Singh.
The DC also expressed anguish over the high number of violations of COVID protocols, mostly by the youths, while urging locality leaders and committees to look into the issue.
“If people don’t follow protocols and continue to violate curfew restrictions then how can COVID be defeated? Everyone is a stakeholder in this fight to end this pandemic,” maintained Singh.
