SHILLONG, July 26: Rajya Sabha member Prof. Rakesh Sinha, who adopted Kongthong, popularly known as the whistling village in Meghalaya, has said that modern toilets with “good physical looks” are necessary after construction of new set of ten toilets were completed under the initiative of Prof. Rakesh Sinha.
“Modern toilets with good physical looks were necessary because Kongthong attracts a large number of tourists both from the Northeastern states and across the country. The project was completed in stipulated time,” the MP told The Shillong Times.
The MP said that the villagers are pleased to find that someone is emotionally and democratically connected with them. He also informed that a sanitary napkin vending machine would soon be installed to facilitate sanitary napkins to the young women of Kongthong.
Moreover, the MP has planned to make a gate at the entry of the village with local-cultural flavour besides rebuilding the local school.
Holistic development of Kongthong village with modern facilities and fulfilling required infrastructure are some of the targets to be completed very soon, he said.
