TURA, July 27: Commuters passing through the national highway-62, which connects North Garo Hills to East Garo Hills, were on Tuesday evening looted by an armed gang.
The gang, believed to have been armed with country-made handguns and daggers, intercepted the vehicles on an isolated stretch between Wageasi in the north and Rongmil area in the east.
After intercepting the two vehicles heading towards Williamnagar, the armed men snatched close to Rs 50,000 from one of the vehicles. However, one of the intercepted vehicles managed to flee the scene after which police at Rongjeng were subsequently alerted.
The police force was then immediately rushed to the scene.
