SHILLONG, July 28: Additional Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC) North Eastern Region, Major General Ananta Bhuyan, has hailed the decision to introduce NCC as an elective subject in colleges affiliated with NEHU while stating that the move will immensely benefit cadets from the border areas.
Bhuyan, who will retire as the ADG on July 31, said, “Earlier it was considered as an extracurricular activity but now that it’s an elective subject, it would greatly benefit the students,” he said, adding that NCC is considered to be a scoring subject.
This will offer a major advantage to the cadets, especially those appearing in B and C Certificate examinations, which are awarded after stipulated training period of two to five years, the ADG added.
Stating that he has had satisfying tenure, Bhuyan said that a lot of NCC units have been established during the past one year, especially in the border areas. He further said the number of enrollments of cadets in the NCC in the region is slowly increasing and efforts are being taken to popularise it.
