SHILLONG, July 29: Following the appointment of a new vice chancellor for the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) recently — a decision more or less irrevocable — a fresh but similar plea has now been made, this time it is for a local pro-vice chancellor for the Shillong campus of the University.
Petitioning the NEHU vice chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla for a local pro-vice chancellor for the university’s Shillong campus on Thursday, the Meghalaya Confederation for Academic Welfare (MeCAW) accentuated the need to indulge local aspirants to “uplift NEHU from its current low ranking, a legacy left by Srivastava’s failed regime”.
“In its memorandum submitted to Prof Shukla, the MECAW asserted quick appointment of a qualified local pro-VC of Shillong campus to build up a bridge with the local community for advancement of academic interests of Meghalaya and the region,” a statement in this regard said.
The Confederation, during the meeting with Shukla, also expressed its concern over the alleged anomalies in past six years.
The MeCAW has, meanwhile, also assured the vice chancellor of “full co-operation” from its side while expressing hope that “NEHU would gain by getting rid of tainted officials of the earlier regime”.
