TURA, Aug 2: The GSU, AYWO, FKJGP and ADE on Monday called on NEHU pro vice chancellor G Singaiah, seeking upgrade in the overall functioning of the university by appointing eligible staff to vacant posts and revamping the university’s infrastructure.
In a memorandum submitted to Singaiah, the groups sought the appointment of a tribal pro-vice chancellor, two assistant registrars and regular dealing assistants for the departments.
Pointing out that all dealing assistants currently are those who have been employed on contractual basis, the groups stressed on the need to appoint regular dealing assistants in order for the university to function better.
Informing Singaiah that posts of Senior Assistant, Deputy Librarian and Section Officer continue to remain vacant following the retirement of former staff, they urged him to ensure that the vacancies are filled immediately.
The groups, while pointing out that NEHU has overlooked those employees who have been working on a daily wage basis since 1996, urged that they be given regular posts that are vacated by way of transfer, death, voluntary retirement, retired superannuation and promotion.
According to the organisations, barring a few posts of technical assistant in RDAP, there have been no regular posts created for non-teaching staff in the NEHU since its inception.
They also rued that the status of regular non-teaching posts for NEHU, Tura, during the 11th plan was neither looked upon by the authorities concerned nor were details of the posts sanctioned under the plan declared. They also asked the pro vice-chancellor to make known the details and status of the same immediately.
Other demands made by the organisations included the appointment of Section Officer by way of promotion or regular basis, appointment of a regular Assistant Project Engineer and an Electrical Engineer, construction of staff quarters and roads etc.
