ePrison launched at Williamnagar district jail

SHILLONG, Aug 5: The Inspector General of Prisons M Kharkrang on Thursday launched ePrison at Williamnagar district jail. With this launch, all prisons in Meghalaya have been connected via ePrisons.
It may be mentioned that ePrison is a web technology-based application software, which has been developed by using the latest tools with various functions integrated in it.
This IT set-up shall help administrators of the state prison department. Informing about ePrison, Kharkrang said the move will reduce burden on the government agencies and duplicity of their efforts. It shall not only reduce the delay in processing the information but shall also automate processes and functions convenient and transparent service to all the stakeholders through ICT, the IG said.
Through the initiative, the information of jail inmates will also be made available to all the prisons, police, intelligence and central agencies for various purposes.
