SHILLONG, Aug 5: The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) on Thursday condoled the demise of Ashok Bijoy Chakraborty, former vice principal and HoD of Mathematics, Lady Keane College.
Born on April 1, 1937, in Karimganj, Chakraborty passed away on Wednesday in Gurgaon following heart-related issues.
In a statement, the MRCTA recalled Chakraborty’s contributions towards raising the status of the college through various developmental activities.
“He was always active in various welfare measures for the teachers and also was the moving force behind the creation of the Staff Cooperative and Welfare Society of the College. All these are great sources of inspiration to thousands of his admirers,” the MRCTA said.
Remembering him as an “exponent of Mathematics”, the MRCTA said that Chakraborty had made an indelible impression on his students by simplifying the concepts of the subject. “Such was his love and sincerity for the subject as well as his students that he took classes writing complex mathematical derivations even with his left hand when he fractured the right hand accidentally,” the MRCTA said.
The Association also recalled how Chakraborty was active in social work and activities of teachers’ organisations.
