TURA, Aug 6: Principal Secretary, Health department, P Sampath Kumar, has appealed to the Village Employment Councils (VECs) to take the responsibility of encouraging people to get inoculated against COVID-19.
Kumar made the appeal during a Block War Room meeting at the Multi-Facility Centre at Asanang in Rongram C&RD Block in Asanang, near Tura on Friday.
The Principal Secretary, who was accompanied by the Director of Health Family Welfare Dr. S Nongbri and West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, highlighted the perils of COVID-19.
Maintaining that unvaccinated people are more prone to getting infected by the virus, he appealed to one and all to accord priority to vaccination.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, on the other hand, informed that even the highly educated people in Tura are unwilling to get vaccinated.
Dr Nongbri, on the other hand, asked the locals to come forward for vaccination and said that it is the only shield against COVID-19.
