ABVP to hoist Tricolours in 175 places across M’laya
SHILLONG, Aug 10: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (AVBP), Meghalaya, will hoist the Tricolour at 175 places across Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills as part of its Independence Day celebrations. In a statement on Tuesday, the AVBP said it has also targeted distributing 5,000 Tricolours among 5,000 households across Meghalaya. “ABVP will also work on plans like internships, Tiranga march, social media campaigns, short films on forgotten warrior, etc. throughout the year,’ the statement said. Meanwhile, ABVP central working committee member, Darilin Tang, has appealed to the youths to join the Independence Day celebrations.

Shullai inaugurates projects
SHILLONG, Aug 10: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday inaugurated Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Plant, newly-constructed bull farm, intra-district liquid nitrogen transport vehicles and dispatch unit building — all projects under Rashtriya Gokul Mission — at Central Semen Bank, Intensive Cattle Development Project, Upper Shillong. Addressing the gathering, Shullai laid emphasis on the steps taken by the department in combating African Swine Fever. Launching the official website and logo of the AH & Veterinary department, Shullai also made a fervent appeal to the officers at various levels to express and put up their work on the official website.

Call for advocacy of vaccination
SHILLONG, Aug 10: The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTU&A) has asked the members of various unions/association, in organised as well as unorganised sectors, to advocate for vaccination against COVID-19. The call was made during a general meeting of the MJCTU which was virtually held on Monday in observance of ‘Save India Day’. According to a statement, the meeting also resolved to carry forward the struggle for building a strong and vibrant India. “The meeting also felt that Head of every organisation/office/institution must also play a decisive positive role so that all stakeholders in such bodies get vaccinated at the earliest. We also appeal all the citizens, irrespective of their status of vaccination, to strictly conform to COVID-19 protocols and avoid mingling in crowd,” the statement said. The meeting also condemned the alleged assault on medical representatives at Dr H. Gordon Roberts Hospital recently. Other resolutions were also taken during the meeting.

PMGKAY rice released in EKH
SHILLONG, Aug 10: Free rice under PMGKAY for NFSA (AAY and PHH) households at the scale of 5 kg per head has been released for the month of August through the respective fair price shops, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) said in a statement on Tuesday.
