Governor moved over problems of lease holders

SHILLONG, Aug 11: Cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai, members of Shillong Cantonment Lease Holders Association and headman of Jhalupara Village Council called on Governor Satya Pal Malik to confer about the ongoing issues faced by the lease holders of Shillong Cantonment Area.
During the meeting, Shullai, while apprising Malik of the rise in tax due to implementation of STR at the rate of 2.5 per cent of the land value, asked the Governor to take up the issue with Ministry of Defence. Suggesting that the implementation of STR should be 0.25 of the land value, the minister said it is acceptable and payable by the lessees.
Shullai also highlighted other grievances faced by the residents of Shillong Cantonment Area due to the implementation of new Draft Cantonment Lands Administration Rules 2021.
