Protest march against killing of former HNLC leader

NONGSTOIN, August 19:  A massive peaceful protest march was taken out under the aegis of  “Ka sur jong ki Nong West”  here today against the ‘fake encounter killing’ of  former HNLC general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew by Meghalaya Police on August 13 last.

The rally was taken out by people at Nongstoin  to express solidarity with the family members of ex-militant Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was killed in a police encounter on August 13

Hundreds of locals from Nongstoin took part in the rally holding black flags and placards to condemn the incident.

Prominent speakers including Franklin Syiemiong, President of KSU Nongstoin Circle, Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh President of HYC WKH and Pastor B.Thongni of Nongstoin, suggested the government that the police and public should  cooperate with one another and the incident in Mawlai will have repercussion   in Nongstoin and in every part of Khasi and Jaintia hills because he was a part of the Khasi tribe.

The speakers also urged the public not to create any disturbance in the society or not to take the law into their own hands
