Base laid for road revamp in Smit

SHILLONG, Aug 23: Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB) chairman Lambor Malngiang on Monday laid the foundation stone for the renovation of a 5.43-km internal road at Smit village.
Sanctioned under RIDF XXVI for 2020-2021, Rs 3.30 crore has been earmarked for the road project.
Speaking on the programme at Lemthaw Dorbar Hall, Smit, Malngiang, who is also the MLA/MDC of Nongkrem, informed that the tendering process for the project has been completed and the work will commence within a month’s time.
He also expressed hope that not only commuting will be made easier for people but the overall look of the area will be enhanced once the work on the road is complete.
It was also informed by the MLA that around 13,500 households under the constituency were provided aid during the pandemic.
The programme was attended by Balajied Sing Syiem, Syiem Hima Khyrim Syiemship as the guest of honour, senior officials from PWD (Roads), Rangbah Shong and representatives of the Dorbar Smit Pyllun and Seng Kynthei.
