NONGSTOIN, Aug 24: In a spine-chilling incident, a woman and her maid were brutally killed at her residence in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Phlesis Syiem (79) and her maid Maitlynti Lyngdoh Marshillong (25) of Tiehsaw.
The neighbours said they saw a person visit the house at 11 pm on that fateful night. It was informed that he was masked.  Sources said that the house owner seemed to know the person very well as she reportedly opened the gate for the man and welcomed him into the house. It was also said that the murderer purportedly locked the door of the house while leaving.
The next morning, Phlesis Syiem’s son found the door locked from outside and initially assumed that his mother went to visit her daughters working in Shillong. However, he forced the door open and found the two bodies lying on the floor of the house.
Speaking to pressmen here on Tuesday, West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, HG Lyngdoh, said that that the police were informed at 12 PM.
He added that an investigation team headed by DSP HQ was tasked to lead the investigation into the murder.
Crime Scene Unit (CSU) from Shillong and the K9 Unit Dog Squad have also arrived here to collect the evidence.
The SP has assured that they will crack the case in no time and those involved in the crime will booked under law.
After observing all legal formalities on the spot, the bodies of the victims were sent to Nongstoin Civil Hospital for autopsy.
It may be mentioned here that police have ruled out a possible angle of theft or burglary as all belongings inside the house including cash and jewellery were not missing.
